Monte Carlo is a long way from Youngstown, but on Nov. 8, the Mahoning County Bar Association will bring the aura of Monte Carlo to the Youngstown Country Club. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is $50 per person. Formal attire is required but black tie is optional.

Kathi McKnabb Welsh, president of the Mahoning County Bar Association Foundation, said that the social committee has been eager to hold this type of event.

“The social committee was putting together events for the year and discussed that we use to have an event around holiday time that was formal,” she said. “We wanted to get back to that but we also wanted it to be something fun to attract members and all lawyers, even if they are not bar members. We’re going to dress up nicely but have a good time as well.”

The Monte Carlo Night will include a live auction, basket raffle, music for dancing and casino-style gaming. There will also be a cash bar and hor d’oeuvres.

Lawyers are not the only ones who are allowed to attend the event.

“It’s absolutely not only lawyers but we would also encourage lawyer’s families and friends of the association as well.” Welsh said.

The money made from the Monte Carlo evening will be donated to the Mahoning County Bar Association Foundation. The MCBA Foundation provides assistance to lawyers and their families in times of need, provides law school scholarships to local students, supports Law Day functions and promotes ethics in conjunction with Youngstown State University. Last year, the foundation provided 14 law students with scholarships.

Welsh said that the Mahoning County Bar Association is a close community.

“The nice thing about practicing in Mahoning County is that it still maintains that aspect of a little, small-town type practice,” she said. “Which lends itself, I think, to a nice level of professionalism that maybe you don’t see in larger markets with bar associations and attorneys. I love being part of this bar association.”

Having done Monte Carlo nights in the past, Welsh said that the committee has high hopes for the event.

“We would love to have a successful event,” she said. “We’re actively seeking sponsorships and we’re doing well in that regard. Now we want people to attend because they are going to have a good time.”

Those interested in more information about attending the Mahoning County Bar Association’s Monte Carlo Night should call the bar office at 330-746-2933. RSVP deadline for the event is Oct. 31.
