WARREN––The Honorable Diane V. Grendell will be hanging up her robe after eighteen years of public service as a judge on the 11th District Court of Appeals. She has left a lasting imprint on the legal community and will be dearly missed by coworkers and constituents alike.

Judge Grendell has proudly served three terms as judge on the 11th District Court of Appeals, during which time she has heard nine cases in the Ohio Supreme Court and has authored over 200 opinions that have been published by the Ohio Supreme Court.

A 1984 graduate of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Judge Grendell was born and raised in northeast Ohio. She received her undergraduate degree from Baldwin Wallace College. She also earned a nursing degree in 1971 from the Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing of St. John’s College. In addition to these many accomplishments, she served as a judge advocate general officer in the Ohio Military Reserve.

Prior to being elected to the court of appeals in 2000, Judge Grendell began her legal career as an attorney, specializing in complex toxic tort litigation, product liability, family law, medical malpractice/wrongful death and probate. She worked for the law firms of Jones Day, Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, Grendell & Marrer, and Barrett, Sexton & Federman. She became the first woman elected as a state representative in the Ohio House of Representatives for the 68th District, where she served from 1992 to 2000.

During her tenure in judicial office, Judge Grendell has participated in the Ohio Judicial Conference’s Public Confidence and Community Outreach Committee, Legislative Review Committee, and the Unwarranted Criticism of Judges Committee. She has authored 22 articles that have been published and has received multiple awards during her career.

While Judge Grendell will no longer be sitting on the bench, the legal community has been made better by her service.
