Newest social media app Clubhouse could be good for attorneys

It is hard to keep up with the modern kids. I know. But here comes the one-year-old social media platform Clubhouse and its 10 million users, presenting another opportunity for lawyers to reach potential new clients and have a conversation.
Clubhouse is an audio-only and invitation-only platform that creates conversations among groups and individuals. Because it is invitation-only, it is starting to become a sort of group of movable Ted Talk conversations that currently attracts top-tier contributors. These include Silicon Valley influencers, media and art personalities, and professional groups like lawyers.
Probably at some point the déclassé will invade the place, but for now it is a forum where professionals can exchange information and virtually create networks. Other social media platforms like LinkedIn can do that already, of course, but Clubhouse doesn’t have the advertising and self-promotion clutter of those other apps.
The first thing to do is wrangle an invitation. Once in, you can join (or start) conversations or groups on topics of interest. You can be a learner/ listener, a contributor, or an expert/leader.
When you first join, you fill out a profile. Here is the place to present your qualifications if you want to display your legal area expertise and maybe snag some well-heeled clientele. You also link here to your other social media (recommended).
Next you join specific groups to learn or share, and you follow the various thought leaders who have groups of their own.
Then look for opportunities to contribute to the conversations going on in various rooms. The big (and obvious) caveat here is that you actually have to have something to contribute. People who talk just to hear themselves talk won’t last very long here.
Then host a room on a topic in which you are an expert. Pick topics that you know thoroughly and that other people may be interested in. It’s not exactly trolling for clients, but, well, you know the advertising rules for attorneys. Schedule well in advance and promote them outside of the Clubhouse app.
And then make sure your moderator skills are up to snuff. Join a few other rooms first to see how they run. Establish guidelines, encourage conversation. If you have a high-level guest, don’t encourage a bunch of interruptions.
So go get your invite and get started with Clubhouse.
Thanks once again to the folks at Good2BSocial.
