As its oil and gas practice continues to grow, Akron-based Witschey Witschey & Firestine Co. has added a new associate who is well versed in the area to accommodate client needs.

Karan Moss joined the firm on May 18. For the past three and a half years, Moss has been an oil and gas landman in the North Canton office of Orange Energy.

“I started the job right after I passed the bar,” said Moss, who received her bachelor’s in political science/criminal justice and her law degree from The University of Akron. “The job did not require me to be a lawyer but I did use my legal skills in the position.

“This is actually my first traditional legal job,” she said.

Founded in 1996, Witschey Witschey & Firestine Co. represents businesses and individuals throughout Ohio and Florida in the areas of commercial transactions and litigation, estate and business succession planning and real estate. In February 2005, the firm relocated its office to its present location at 405 Rothrock Rd. in Akron.

“Witschey Witschey & Firestine has a good reputation and it is not just a general practice firm.

“When I was in law school I worked with some business clients and I really enjoyed it so I am looking forward to doing that here as well as becoming involved in many different areas and using my oil and gas knowledge.”

Born in Canton, Moss grew up in Dellroy in Carroll County, Ohio. “I decided to go into law because I liked the idea of doing something meaningful to help people,” she said.

Moss and her husband now live in Akron and have two children.

“I want to raise my family in the Akron area and I am exploring some pro bono options that would allow me to contribute to the community,” Moss said.

“Over the last two years, our firm has grown its oil and gas practice and, with the economy rebounding, we are doing more commercial transactions and real estate work as well,” said David Firestine, a partner at Witschey Witschey & Firestine.  “We feel Karan fits nicely into these practice areas and the future growth plans for our firm.

“She was referred to our firm by another lawyer in town who we know and respect,” said Firestine.  “We interviewed Karan and found her to be professional, sharp and ambitious.  She was the co-captain of The University of Akron’s varsity swimming team in college, which told us that she knows how to work hard and lead others.  And, her husband is an Akron police officer and they have young children, so they are committed to living and working in the Akron area.  We see a bright future and are thrilled to have her join our firm.”

“My goal is to build a positive reputation for myself, while working to see that the firm’s stellar reputation continues,” said Moss.
